Are women still suitable for IVF at the age of 45?

Is it still suitable for IVF at 45? In terms of female physiology, after the age of 45, women are basically in the perimenopausal period, with very few available oocytes in the ovaries. In clinical practice, the natural pregnancy rate is less than 5%, and chromosomal abnormalities may even lead to fertilization. However, there is an inverse relationship between age and the pregnancy rate of in vitro fertilization (IVF). As the ovarian reserve function of women decreases, the uterine environment is also significantly worse. However, even so, there is no clear regulation on how old it is before you can have IVF. Doctors need to judge whether you meet the characteristics of IVF based on the actual situation.

We occasionally see news of safe childbirth for elderly women, but after all, this is a case, and this case does not mean everything. The older the age, the lower the pregnancy rate, which is an undeniable fact.

There are people in their 40s who can have children, and in their 20s, they reach menopause (which means ovarian failure and complete loss of fertility). Everyone's fertility is different, just like everyone is born different. So, don't think that others can still have children in their 40s, and you can too.

It is very difficult for elderly women, whether they are male or female, to conceive naturally.

Domestic medical statistics indicate that the success rate of IVF for women in their 40s is around 10% -15%, with a few hospitals reaching around 20%. The international level of success rate for elderly IVF patients over 40 is about 20% -30%. The reason for the decrease in success rate of in vitro fertilization in elderly women mainly depends on their own reasons. If the technical level is high, the success rate will vary.

Older women's ovaries begin to degenerate and produce fewer and lower quality eggs, leading to a decrease in fertilization and pregnancy rates. The response of the ovaries to drugs is also reduced, and the rates of miscarriage and fetal malformations are higher than those of young women. However, there are reasons for the difference in success rates of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Overall, it depends subjectively on differences in fertility, and objectively on differences in doctors' and technical skills.

In China, there are age limits for both in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination. Generally speaking, this depends on the age range of 40 to 45. If many women are found to be in the perimenopausal period, there are very few eggs available in the ovaries. Therefore, for women over 45 years old, doctors do not recommend getting pregnant again.
